Milwaukee Streetscape and Logan Square Redesign

The Milwaukee Avenue Streetscape and Logan Square Redesign Project is a transformative and impactful public infrastructure project which:

• Installed dozens of pedestrian safety improvements throughout the project area such as raised crosswalks, pedestrian refuge islands, bump-outs, and road striping,

• Introduced over an acre of new pedestrian space by reclaiming space from the roadway to create La Placita, the new pedestrian plaza along the former Kedzie Avenue, and the Milwaukee Avenue Promenade in Logan Square Proper,

• and improved aging infrastructure in the project area with new street lights, new electrical conduits, new extended curbs for outdoor dining, new sewer structures, a resurfaced street, and more!

This project broke ground in May of 2024 and is now nearing completion, with most major project milestones having been completed. On June 22, 2026 Alderman Anthony Quezada, Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Department of Transportation, and community stakeholders such as Logan Square Preservation, Palenque LSNA, the Logan Square Chamber of Commerce, and more gathered to celebrate this milestone with a ceremonial ribbon-cutting ceremony.
